Emerging Travel Group is seeking a knowledgeable and strategic Legal Director to pioneer our legal operations and spearhead risk management across the US, the EU, the UAE, and CIS. The ideal candidate will be adept at aligning business objectives with comprehensive legal frameworks, ensuring compliance across all jurisdictions, and leading an expert team dedicated to supporting our global expansion efforts.
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive legal policies and procedures to mitigate risks while facilitating business development initiatives across multiple jurisdictions, with a particular focus on the US, the EU, the UAE, and CIS.
  • Secure legally sound compromises between business development objectives and risk mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with global regulations and industry standards.
  • Establish and maintain efficient legal processes to ensure timely documentation delivery on various legal matters, including contracts, regulatory compliance, litigation, employment law, intellectual property, and corporate governance.
  • Manage the setup of the new legal entities and ad-hoc projects, which have significant legal implications, and liaise with external counsels as necessary.
  • Support M&A, restructuring, equity or debt raising transactions by managing legal, due diligence, structuring deals, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to the Board and senior management on key deals and requests, including corporate governance, capital distributions, and investor-related communications, with a strong focus on risk mitigation.
  • Oversee and manage the legal staff of the division, consisting of 6 team members.
  • Manage the legal division budget effectively, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.

Key Qualifications

  • Law degree with a strong international background preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, with a recent focus on structuring complex transactions involving multiple jurisdictions, including the US, the EU, the UAE, and CIS.
  • Proven track record of hiring, leading, and developing teams, with at least 5 years of managerial experience.
  • Extensive experience working with C-level management, with a minimum of 3 years in a similar capacity.
  • Fluency in civil law, including intellectual property, advertising, and personal data legislation, with knowledge of core principles of common law systems and European Union law, including GDPR compliance.
  • Familiarity with legislation regarding online travel agencies and tour operators preferred.
  • Fluent English, proficient legal writing skills required.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound legal and business judgment, particularly in ambiguous situations.
  • Comfortable handling significant and complex legal matters with short turnaround times, particularly related to restructuring initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrable ability to distill complex legal issues into a simple, high-impact communication medium (e.g., CEO briefs, memos).
  • Experience in court representation and in an IT company considered advantageous.
